Composition: Demi-Porcelaine, which literally means half-porcelain, was a higher quality intermediate category between traditional faience and true porcelain. This was made of a dense, white or slightly ivory-toned paste made from a specific mixture of white clay, kaolin, quartz, and feldspar. The floral and graphic motifs were sprayed onto the plate through copper stencils and then glazed with a clear transparent protective enamel, which allowed complex transferware or hand-painted patterns to stand out vibrantly.

Condition: These old beauties are in a very good condition in general. Two of the plates have a tiny chip as shown in the photos. 

Make and model: Germaine was made by the French factory Fénal Badonviller in the 1920s and 1930s. Each plate shows a stamp with the FB stamp and the mold number of 3 (deep plate).

Cleaning: The plates are not dishwasher safe and should never be put in a dishwasher, since it will destroy their beauty and longevity. Clean the plates with a mild detergent without any citrus added. Never soak or leave the plates on a drying rack, it will create mold stains beneath the glaze. Simply wash with a soft sponge and dry off immediately with a tea towel.
